I am under no illusion that when Mitchell and Webb put these sketches together, it was to have a pop at Christianity.
Whatever the intention (Oooooh . . . sounding a bit post-modern!) for me these sketches typify the BBC’s religious programming ethos which aims to portray Christianity as one of the following:
- Weird
- Irrelevant
- For old people
- A Priest on an Island
- Out moded
- Out Dated
- Quirky
- Two Priests on an Island
- Emasculated
- Fanatical
- Out of touch
- Fundamentalist
- Dot Cotton
Mitchell and Web have caught at least one of those here.
